George Lakes Yacht Club was founded in 1954 by George sailors; originally on Swartvlei Lagoon, relocated to Island Lake (Wilderness) in 1961. Dinghies and cats suited to the lake (Laser, GP14, Fireball, Sonnet, Optimist, Tera, Dabchick, Hobie, Dart, etc.); runs a sailing school.
